My Story

Deb Kumar Paul a prolific movement artist from Eastern India began his theatrical journey at a very early agethrough his keen interest in the physicality of performance, for example his deep involvement in the Dance, Calisthenics and Martial Arts. His subsequent specialized schooling in Drama;in particular, Graduate and Post – Graduate degrees under the aegis of Rabindra Bharati University ran parallel to his intensive training in Mime under the guidance of Sri Jogesh Dutta and Mr. Bim Mason (UK) at the Jogesh MimeAcademy (Kolkata) and Circomedia (UK). During this period, hetraveled throughout India and abroad as a performer and Director of Embody. He explored his creativity as an actor-dancer under the direction of the legendary thespian Sri Shyamananda Jalanandperformed all over the world. He has worked as a choreographer with renowned theatre director Padma Shree Sri Bansi Kaul.

Awards and Felicitation

As a recognized exponent of Mime, he was first awarded a National Scholarship and soon after a National Fellowship by the Govt. of India. He was awarded the most coveted Charles Wallace Scholarship from the U.K. He won top awards in several National Youth Festivals. He has been felicitated by Nandikar, Kolkata, and many other renowned theatre groups.


Experience Testimony

Presently, he is the founder and director of Embody, Kolkata. Has been commissioned by Prachyo Theatre group to direct a nonverbal play CONDEMNED CELL. He is an external examiner in Drama Dept. of Rabidra Bharati University and the visiting mime and movement teacher in National School of Drama, New Delhi and Sikkim Theater Center, Natadha, Howrah, Nandikar Theater School, Kolkata. He conducts regular theatre workshops and training programs in CCRT, Minerva Repertory. He is the Vice President of the Kolkata based theatre group OGLAM, inhouse theatre trainer of Progoti, Howrah, and a creative associate of Ragasram, Beharampur, Murshidabad. Served as Mime teacher in Satyajit Roy Film & Television Institute (SRFTI).
